Frequently Asked Questions

What is Functional Medicine and why do you believe in this form of medical practice?

Functional medicine is a fundamentally new way of thinking about health and disease. Conventional medicine often treats and focuses on symptoms of disease. Functional medicine looks beyond the symptoms to uncover the underlying root cause of the condition. This is often done by a thorough holistic assessment that looks at one’s full history, symptoms in all systems, environment, stressors and toxic burden. We believe health issues are often interconnected.

Simply put, we focus on and treat each client with an individualized science-based approach to promote optimal wellness, not cover symptoms.

How can I best prepare for my first visit?

Please complete the Intake and read and sign the Consents that were emailed to you prior to your first appointment. This will help us prepare so we can hit the ground running.
Make sure you come with all of your questions, and a good grasp of your personal health journey. We will want to take a deep dive into your story and what your health challenges have been leading up to this point.

It is also important to know all the medications and supplements that you are taking. We also request you bring medical records including previous testing, imaging, or reports you might have. Please have these available so that we can evaluate them accurately.

What labs will you order?

Depending on your presentation and needs, we will often order a comprehensive diagnostic panel through conventional labs like Quest or LabCorp. If indicated, we also order specialized functional laboratory testing through Doctor’s Data, Genova, GI Map, DUTCH, Nutrition Genome and others. This includes but is not limited to genetic testing, stool testing, nutrient levels, food sensitivities, hormones, mycotoxins, and heavy metals.

We also offer in house phlebotomy and testing for most recommended labs.

Once my lab results come in, what’s the next step?

When running lab work, we don’t just look to ensure you’re in the “normal” ranges. Instead we set up a virtual or in-person consultation to go over our analysis of the data to ensure you have an opportunity to ask us any questions you may have and an open discussion about what’s next. This is one of the most important steps in the process, as it really allows us to get to know you and how we can best help you reach optimal health based on the data and your lifestyle.

Who do you treat?

We see males and females. We are happy to see children of any age. We also provide support for pregnant, breast feeding, and anticipating moms throughout your journey.

Can you be my Primary Care Physician (PCP)?

If you are looking for a holistic and natural primary care alternative we are happy to work with you and your family as the first line of care. We most often work in conjunction with medical PCPs as we do not offer prescriptions or vaccinations for our patients. We have the ability to order any imaging, labs, and perform school or sports exams for kids as well as offer referrals when specialty care is warranted.

You are not in network with insurance, can I still see you?

Yes. You can use your FSA/HSA account if this applies to you. Our care may also be covered by your insurance as out-of-network medical care, most of our clients get up to 70% reimbursed. After your medical visit, send an email to to get a receipt. Then, submit that receipt to your insurance company.

Does Optimal You require health insurance?

Optimal You does not require health insurance. We use a hassle-free self-pay method to ensure ease and honesty with our patients. The new patient fee covers your consultation, exam, and ROF visit as well as your first treatments and baseline testing. On the second (ROF) visit you will sit down with your doctor and discuss their recommendations and associated costs. We are always upfront with the cost of care and offer various payment plans. Depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to seek reimbursement for our services from your provider.
